Hamburg

Hamburg is a city state that was and is influential in European trade relations as the second largest port in Europe (after Rotterdam). It was part of the Hanse trade alliance during the 17th and 18th century and remains a wealthy state in Germany with approximately 5 million inhabitants. Much of the city was destroyed during the second world war but the rebuilding efforts have yielded a blossoming and vibrant metropolis. The port area is worth a visit every time of the year with the new opera under construction right on the sea. The Mayors house is also the seat of the Hamburg parliament. The Michel (St. Michaelis church) is one of the most well-known Lutheran churches in the city and country and a well-known landmark of Hamburg
