San Diego

San Diego is probably best known for Sea World, its wonderful zoo, and its close proximity to the Mexican border. It is actually the 8th biggest city in the United States with a population of just below 3 million within the city limits. We drove over from Phoenix to San Diego (approximately 6-7 hours through the desert) for Independence Day 2010. The zoo is indeed worth visiting - although it is too big to actually explore within a day. We got lucky and witnessed the panda bears being active early in the morning before they went back to sleep for the rest of the day. Our friends took us over to visit Hotel Del Coronado where several classical movies have been filmed.

We are now returning frequently back to San Diego for the annual San Diego ComiCon - the biggest nerd-get-together with over 200,000 attendees. We first attended in 2011 and will most likely return in the years to come if time allows. Tickets are not easy to get by but it is worth the trip and standing in line for many, many hours to see the big stars and experience the craziest outfits.
